Funky florals?

  • Top: Maurices
  • Skinny Jeans: Z. Cavaricci via Torrid (worn previously here)
  • Pumps: Nine West
  • Necklaces: Maurices
  • Bracelets: Torrid
  • Bag: Nine West

This is actually an outfit from a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about posting it. I really like all the pieces, I'm just not sure about the whole thing. I kinda think the top doesn't "work" with the rest of it. And the top and the shoes are both floral-ish(Sure, that's a word, right? right?) prints, and I like the color pairing, so I thought they might be fun, but now I'm not sure. But this is a style blog, mistakes and all, so I finally decided it was good enough to ask everyone else what they think. So, what do you think? :) I mean, personally, I think the sky is blue (Actually, looking out the window right now, its gray... so I'm wrong again... oh well). Okay, bad joke, I know. (I like bad jokes!)

So more than one style blogger has mentioned Halloween, so like fall, I figure that means I can officially be excited about it on my blog. And why am I excited? Because when I go to parties, I am not the only guy in a dress! Okay, I may still be the only guy in a dress, but it does lead to some funny conversations like "What are you going to do with those shoes the rest of the year?" (Wear them, duh!) or "Did you lose a bet?" (That would make this easier to explain wouldn't it?) or "I think your costume cost more than the prize?" (But its such a fabulous costume, who cares?) Most of the people who I expect to end up at the same parties are actually in the know, so it might be a bit more boring this year. But whatever the case, I will totally post my costume on here.

And as always, I love questions in the comment and I will try very hard to answer them in a future post. And of course, my totally awesome wife took the pictures.

  2. Thank you so much!!! You *always* have such wonderful pictures on your blog, you both do such an amazing job. I'm glad he enjoys it even if he doesn't know it! ;)

I won't say we don't have our moments, but I do think my wife enjoys bossing me around about my poses. :)

  5. Okay, you look WAY better in skinnies than me! And I think this outfit definitely works. If I could make one suggestion, I don't think I'd wear the heart necklace with it just because of where the pendant hits. If it were a little shorter (try the pendant on a different chain?), I think it would be perfect- maybe right above the empire waistline and just a teeensy bit underneath the pearls.

As always, you look great. :) I wish my hubs took my pictures! And you're so right, Gee's pics always look incredulous! She looks like a vintage model, right???

  6. I like the outfit a lot- but I am trying to see where it may bother you. Maybe the empire seam? I agree with you on the colors- they look great together! :)

  7. Sadie's Momma - Thank you!!! I'm sure you look great in skinnies! Ah, yeah... I do wish that pendant had a shorter chain. I wore it partially because I felt like it definitely "needed" something. Ack. Well, you're right about the pendant! I actually have a hard time finding necklaces the right length: a lot of them are way too short unless they're crazy long.

Meli22 - Aww, thanks!!! Yeah, it might be the empire seam, maybe it needs to hit a little lower? That's part of the trouble though, I just can't quite point a finger at what's bothering me either. I hope you're having a great day! :)

  8. I like the outfit for the most part. It's funny, I didn't realize that empire seam was part of the shirt until I read Meli22's comment. I thought it was a belt and I was going to tell you to belt it lower, lol. So maybe that is it? Also, the yellow insides of those fantastic shoes would be super fun to play up if you had a neat yellow top?

  9. Thank you!! I think you two are definitely right! I may have to reconsider this top, or maybe see how it will look under a cardigan or blazer? Oh, do I wish I had more yellow in my wardrobe actually!! I will definitely keep that in mind! (I intend to start remixing once I get through most of my shoes...) :)

  10. I like mixing and matching patterns, when they're both floral-ish (!) or otherwise! The shoes are super cute and funky too! :)

  12. Thanks!!! I agree, mixing patterns is always fun, and if it doesn't work, there's always tomorrow. And of course I added you to my blog roll! You have a great blog, why wouldn't I? :)

  13. I like the pattern mixing in this! It's subtle and it works. Plus I love yellow, so the little itty bit of yellow peeking out in the shoes makes me happy!

  16. I am LOVING those shoes! I think it was a great pattern mix-- the addition of the yellow is such a fun & unexpected touch :)
I'm suuuper pumped for Halloween too-- I always love seeing what bloggers come up with too, they're usually the most creative bunch of costume-ers ever!

  17. Supercute shoes. I almost want to track them down! Nine west makes cute and comfortable pumps. You are amazing at pattern mixing.

  18. Mary - Thanks!!! I can imagine. I can't wait to see what people come up with too! :)

Megan Mae - Thank you so much!! Nine West is definitely one of my favorites. I hate to encourage shopping, but, I guess I will. ;) The style on the box is "thelmao" and I think they had the same pattern in a pink version too. I bought them in an outlet store and I don't see it on Zappos, but the Escher and Alvee styles are similar and I've seen them in some fun patterns too. I guess I should start listing this sort of stuff in my outfit breakdowns. :)
